Priyanka Chopra is riding high on her Hollywood success. But the more she’s overseas, the more her desi-ness is coming to the fore. Just recently she had posted a saree and temple jewellery look that garnered praises from all quarters on social media. Looks like she was so flattered that she showed up in an almost the same look to the Mumbai reception of Virushka. But to her dismay, her ensemble did not rise to the occasion.

It was the occasion of the Indian skipper’s and Bollywood diva’s marriage celebration. The who’s who of Bollywood and the cricket fraternity were to be in attendance. What was she thinking when she decided to go the saree route? The problem is not with the saree but its ordinary design and also the plain-vanilla finish of the blouse. Especially when the Bollywood beauties have been finalising their look a month in advance to outdo each other in the best of their fineries at the country’s biggest wedding of the year. This saree may have worked for social media, at the most may be an apt one for one-of events but for a celebrity wedding, a definite no no.

Wake up girl and smell the coffee. While you were away, chasing your American dream, our tinsel town came a long way in terms of fashion. Follow Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone on social media for their sartorial choices. Saree is not just about Kanjeevaram and Benarsi anymore. Now, we have half saree, lehenga saree, metallic saree, basically a variety of designer creations to indulge in. We have not even started on the draping patterns yet. One trip to Sabyasachi’s store may have done the trick for you. All in all, it was a failed attempt to do a Rekha or Vidya Balan. Feeling sorry for your fans!

The only saving grace were the lavish temple jewellery. It is the only aspect of any woman’s look that never lets her down. While the ranihaar added the necessary sparkle to the Quantico star’s look, the bangles elevated the overall look of her half-heartedly chosen ensemble.
