You may have definitely come across this neckpiece but would have pass it off as any statement jewellery. Rightly so! It has got all the trappings, from the right mix of colours and shine to bold look and feel, to qualify as one.  

But make no mistake, it is one of the most revered jewel piece from the treasure trove of Sikkim. Essentially a green beaded pote with a long gold pendant, it is called Tilhari and is worn by married women there. Not just our own Sikkim folks, even Nepalese regard it as a marital emblem. Traditionally, Tilhari is worn in a cross fashion like a sash and the colour of the beads may be green, red or even mixed.

The design so unique, the look so desirable and the effect so unparalleled, Tilhari was nothing short of a masterpiece. It fascinated the modern-day jewellery designers so much that soon it got modified it into a neckpiece and since then, there is no looking back for it. Women around the world, whether they know about its cultural relevance or not, love to flaunt it today as a statement piece.
